This talk is not for the faint hearted!! Medicine can be gory, torture at one time in history becomes common practice, tales from the monster genre have become reality in modern medicine, and medicine from the Dark Ages is now in vogue.

The idea of using leeches in modern practice of medicine might seem abhorrent, but leeches are slowly but surely crawling their way back into modern medicine. There are many treatments that medicine ignored as being worthless that are now storming back into the therapeutic center stage. Electroshock therapy (ECT) for one is now back for many patients who can't be helped by drugs or therapy, ECT is their last, best hope. When it comes to healing gangrenous wounds, maggots held in place by wire-mesh bandages are unparalleled. With the recent approvals of some of these by the FDA, you might as well pull yourself together and get prepared to see some of these annelids on your next visit to the local hospital.
