Entrepreneurs are constantly faced with the dilemma of funding early stage research and development in the start-up biotech environment. Given some patience and a little seed funding, the scientist/entrepreneur has access to many funding sources from government grants and contracts. The best part is the funding is non-dilutive (for founders the best kind) and comes with very little reach through on resulting intellectual property. Come listen to the experience of a scientist/entrepreneur of one start-up, Juvaris BioTherapeutics, that went from small grants of $160K to large proposals of ~$9 million which resulted in the attention of venture capital and eventual funding by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers Pandemic and BioDefense Fund.
