Prior to joining Foley, Tom Moran worked for 11 years as special counsel for Cooley Godward LLP in its Patent Prosecution and Counseling Group. Before joining Cooley, Mr. Moran was at Syntex (U.S.A.) Inc. for 19 years, where he started as a patent attorney and was promoted several times during his tenure with the company to become director of the Patent Law Department for the U.S. Pharmaceuticals Group. Mr. Moran also worked for Shell Oil Company for eight years, first as a chemist and later as a patent agent and patent attorney.

Mr. Moran has worked with both large and small biopharmaceutical and medical device companies to provide guidance on patent strategy and prosecution, trade secret evaluation and litigation assistance.

Mr. Moran received a B.S. in chemistry from Beloit College in Wisconsin in 1964 and later attended the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he was a doctoral candidate in biochemistry. He received his J.D. from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1973.
