Dr. John Bashkin joined Artificial Muscle, Inc. as Director of Business Development in 2007. Prior to that he spent seven years as Director of Business Development at SRI International, specializing in medical device and life science technologies, out-licensing, and contract negotiation. From 1992-2000, Dr. Bashkin was a senior scientist and technology research manager for Molecular Dynamics and Amersham Biosciences, where he led the development of the first high throughput DNA sequencing system that was used for much of the Human Genome Project. He received his B.S. in chemistry and physics from the University of Arizona in 1983, his Ph.D. in chemistry from Indiana University in 1988 and his MBA from Santa Clara University in 2000.
Dr. Bashkin will speak about Artificial Muscle, Inc. (AMI) and the company’s activities in the design and manufacture of smartMOVE TM actuators and sensors based on its proprietary electroactive polymer technology and their usage in biomedical systems. He will differentiate SmartMOVE devices from other competitive products and explain their benefit alternatives to traditional electromagnetic or piezoelectric actuators, small motors, or sensors. He will also cover how these attributes provide a benefit at the component and system level designs, allowing for a reduction in parts count, power supply size and cooling requirements.
